At a near view it is seen that Prince Henry is, though slight of figure, little shorter than Sir Cecil Clementi. He has typically English blue eyes and fair hair, and was wearing yesterday a brown lounge suit with a brown Homburg hat. and a rose in his button hole.

At 8.30 p.m. the Duke of Glouces ter entered the Rose Room with His Excellency the Governor, panied by Mr. Neilage Brown and followed by the principal guests. The beautiful rooni presented most artistic appearance, the tables being daintily decorated with roses and violets of tints in harmony with the general colour scheme of the room. The seating plan had been ingeniously devised by the hotel engineer (Mr. Brearley) to make the best use of the space available, and consisted of a horse-shoe table

A NOTABLE GATHERING.
H.R.H. the Duke of Gloucester was the guest of honour on April 26 at a banquet given at the Peninsula Hotel. The function was arranged by the Hong Kong General Cham- ber of Commerce and the local branch of the China Association, and not far short of two hundred of the leading residents of the Colony were present. It was mainly a gathering representative of all the principal foreign commercial and industrial interests established in Hong Kong--a gathering of men who, each in his own way, has con- tributed a share toward the deve- lopment of the Colony. The com- pany included men who have spent the better part of their lives in Hong Kong, and others who, while not such old residents, yet repre- sented concerns which have been established in business in the Colony for well over half a century. In addition to the members of the mercantile community who were acting as hosts for the occasion, there were present among the guests representatives of the Ad- ministration, the Navy and Army. A most noteworthy gathering, and an occasion to be long remembered.
The Duke of Gloucester reached the hotel at 8.15 p.m., accompanied by H.E. the Governor and members of the Duke's suite. The party was met at the entrance to the hotel by Mr. Neilage S. Brown, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and President of the China Association, and by the Hon. Mr. B. D. F. Beith (Vice-Chairman of both organisa- tions). The Royal visitor was escorted to the sixth floor of the hotel, and as he entered the ante-
company room where the sembled awaiting him, the Band of the 2nd Battalion King's Own Scottish Borderers struck up the National Anthem.
